With The Demise Of Spirit Airlines, The Low-Cost Carrier Group Seek $2.5 Billion In Federal Aid The Association of Value Airlines (AVA) has asked for $2.5 billion in federal assistance through stock warrants that could be converted into equity stakes, according to reporting in the Wall Street Journal. The group represents Frontier Airlines, Allegiant Air, Sun Country and Avelo. It also represented Spirit prior to that airline halting operations. The AVA has warned that fewer low-cost carriers will make air travel less affordable for many Americans. The group said that Spirit Airlines’ collapse is a “clear warning sign” about regulatory and policy pressures favoring large airlines and that it highlights the need for a “balanced, competitive environment” to keep value airlines viable.
