A Civilian Pilot And Marine Corps Veteran, And A DPS Trooper Died In Crash A civilian helicopter pilot who was a Marine Corps veteran was killed along with an Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper-paramedic as they were helping local law enforcement pursue an active shooting suspect near Flagstaff, Ariz. Col. Jeffrey Glover, the director of DPS, said the Ranger 56 crew departed Kingman to assist in what Flagstaff Police Chief Sean Connolly described as a “battle” of gunfire for more than two hours. Police pursued the shooter for the next two hours, resulting in “numerous gunbattles” with “dozens and dozens of rounds being fired,” Connolly said. The gunman “hopped from roof to roof,” and shot into multiple backyards from multiple rooftops, he said.
