Freezing Rain, Icy Roads Factors In Decision To Go ‘ATC Zero’ After a massive snow storm followed by freezing rain and ice, the FAA announced that due to a staffing shortage, the air traffic control tower at Nashville International Airport (KBNA) was closed at 1 am on January 26. Airlines were notified that Nashville airspace went to “ATC zero” and no air traffic was permitted in or out of BNA until the tower reopened.
