In-Flight Engine Failure During Routine Flight Training Exercise Sen. Tim Sheehy, (R-Mont.), was forced to make an emergency landing in a Montana field Friday after experiencing in-flight engine failure while piloting a plane. No injuries were reported to Sheehy or his co-pilot. It was unclear what type of general aviation airplane Sheehy was flying. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. Officials say they found “a minor fuel leak” on scene, which they contained. The FAA has been notified of the event. Mike Berg, the senator’s chief of staff, said in a post on X that Sheehy was participating in a “routine flight training exercise which he completes twice a year.” Sheehy is a Federal Aviation Administration-certified commercial pilot and certified flight instructor, according to his Senate website. “The aircraft experienced a mechanical engine failure,” Berg wrote.
