FAA Rule Will Increase Recording From Two Hours A rule to require cockpit voice recorders (CVR) to retain 25 hours of data for all new passenger airplanes compared with the current two-hour loop has been finalized by the FAA. “This action provides accident investigators, aircraft operators, and civil aviation authorities with substantially more CVR data to help determine the probable causes of incidents and accidents and prevent future incidents and accidents,” the FAA said in the rule making.
