Pilot Doing Check Ride With Pilot Examiner A hot air balloon with two passengers drifted into active power lines near La Verkin, Utah Saturday morning due to heavy winds. No one was injured and Hurricane Valley Fire District Battalion Chief Tyler Ames said the active power lines were an obstacle in removing the balloon, which meant Rocky Mountain Power had to deactivate the power lines before workers could begin the recovery process. “Once Rocky Mountain Power was able to get the power isolated, they grounded that area to make sure everything was safe,” Ames said. “The occupants got out of the basket, and then we were able to unhook the balloon from the basket.”
