Pilot Landed Safely At Kirksville Regional Airport After Emergency A pilot flying at 20,000 feet over northeast Missouri who experienced the blowout of his passenger-side windshield Monday was able to rapidly descend and make an emergency landing. Jeff LaFountain, airport director at Kirksville Regional Airport (IRK) in Missouri, said that after the pilot descended to 10,000 feet, he briefly circled the airport to settle himself down before landing safely. LaFountain said the Cessna 421C Golden Eagle lost the passenger-side plexiglass windshield. The pilot-side glass windshield stayed intact, allowing the pilot to control the plane and make the emergency landing. He said it was fortunate that the pilot-side windshield stayed intact or the situation could have been much worse.
