Pivotal Acoustics Study Says Flyover Noise Level Of 70 dBA At 100 Feet Is Possible Pivotal recently conducted an acoustic test with the assistance of NASA using a 24-microphone array to capture detailed noise data from multiple angles during flight. They found the Pivotal BlackFly, Pivotal’s third?generation aircraft, produced a flyover noise level of 70 dBA at 100 feet, roughly comparable to the sound level of a household vacuum cleaner. The company says the study shows that electric aircraft that blend quietly into neighborhoods can be created. In the research at Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport, NASA captured and analyzed the acoustic signature of the BlackFly aircraft being flown by customers in Pivotal’s early-access program.
