Just before 3:30 p.m., Fordice was flying a P-51 Mustang when the aircraft went down. The NTSB is now investigating the cause of the accident. He was far more than an experienced pilot. A veteran, businessman and philanthropist, Fordice earned respect both in and outside the aviation world. With more than 5,000 flight hours, he became well known through airshows, historic warbird flying and his work with the Southern Heritage Air Foundation, where he served as chairman.
