Just before 3:30 p.m., Fordice was flying a P-51 Mustang when the aircraft went down. The NTSB is now investigating the cause of the accident. He was far more than an experienced pilot. A veteran, businessman and philanthropist, Fordice earned respect both in and outside the aviation world.
