Bill Expands Areas In Which Recreational Unmanned Aircraft Systems Can Fly The Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) championed House Bill 6460 to simplify altitude extensions and airspace permissions for drones. The bill was previously introduced in December 2025 on AMA’s behalf by Reps. Tracy Mann (R-Kan., sponsor) and Sharice Davids (D-Kan., co-sponsor) to address a 2018 legislative error for Class E airspace. The bill would streamline authorization for routine operations in Class E airspace and might allow higher altitude approvals in Class G airspace, beyond the 700- or 1,200-foot above-ground level (AGL) limits that have generally applied in recent years.
