Commercial Airplane Division Profit Delayed This Year By Spirit AeroSystems Purchase Boeing expects its commercial airplane division to turn a profit in 2027, not 2026 as previously expected, due to higher-than-expected costs of buying parts supplier Spirit AeroSystems, according to its chief financial officer on Tuesday. The commercial division’s operating margins will plunge to around negative 7.5% to negative 8% this quarter after Boeing’s takeover of Spirit saddled its new parent with higher expenses, said CFO Jay Malave. Commercial-unit margins that executives had promised would turn positive this year are now expected to stay in the red until 2027, he said. “You don’t get access to all the information until you actually close” the deal, Malave told investors at a Bank of America conference, adding that the financial hit is “a short-term headwind,” according to the Wall Street Journal.
