Low-Cost Carrier to Further Cut Fleet to 80, Down from 214 Last August Spirit is finally preparing to come out of the bankruptcy gutter for the second time and continue running business as usual… if it has any planes left by then. The low-cost carrier intends to emerge from Chapter 11 with just 76 to 80 aircraft by the third quarter of 2026, far down from 214 jets when the airline reentered bankruptcy last August.
