Original Museum Housed In Historic Art Deco Terminal Building The 1940 Air Terminal Museum has ceased operations until further notice, according to a message shared by the museum’s board of directors. The museum is housed inside the historic Art Deco terminal that once served as Houston Municipal Airport. Designed by local architect Joseph Finger, the building is a protected landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. “It is with profound sadness that we share some very difficult news: The 1940 Air Terminal Museum will be ceasing operations until further notice,” the board wrote in a message addressed to friends and volunteers. Financial problems let to the closing. The museum generates some revenue from admissions and more from hosting private events, but it hasn’t been enough to keep it open.
