Pilot Reported Mechanical Trouble, Was Trying To Return To Deer Valley Airport A Piper PA-28-140 was trying to return to Phoenix Deer Valley Airport (DVT) early Wednesday when it crashed into the backyard of a home, injuring the flight instructor, the student pilot and a person inside the house. After departure from DVT, the aircraft climbed eastbound for 4 miles and then abruptly turned left and initiated a descending track back towards the airport. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the plane was inbound back to DVT when it crashed around 7:20-7:30 a.m. local time near Cave Creek Road and Deer Valley Drive. Phoenix Fire Capt. Todd Keller said the flight instructor and student were hospitalized in stable condition, suffering minor cuts and burns. “It hit two houses. Fortunately, everyone was OK. It is a miracle that no one was seriously injured,” he said. A homeowner was also taken to the hospital as a precaution.
