Flight Deputies Reported Seeing Green Laser Beam Flashed At Cockpit A St. Petersburg, Fla., man was arrested after allegedly pointing a laser at the cockpit of a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) helicopter Tuesday night, according to the sheriff’s office. James R. Mock, 71, was jailed on a felony charge of misuse of a laser lighting device, the sheriff’s office said. Under Florida law, it is a third-degree felony to knowingly and willfully shine, point, or focus a laser beam at someone operating a motor vehicle, vessel or aircraft. Shining lasers at aircraft poses a serious safety risk to pilots and their crews.
