Trump’s Complaints About Certification Delays Can Be Resolved Canada says they are actively working to certify the Gulfstream jets that President Donald Trump complained about while threatening to impose a 50% tariff on aircraft from Canada and to not certify new Canadian planes. “It is our understanding that the certification process is well underway and that the certification demands were absolutely recent,” said Canadian Industry Minister Melanie Joly. The approval process for aircraft “is something we don’t politicize,” she said. Steven MacKinnon, Canada’s minister of transport, said Friday he had spoken with executives from General Dynamics and Canadian plane maker Bombardier Inc., and that officials from his department are in touch with U.S. regulators. “Our government is actively working on the situation,” he said.
