Lapse Was the Final Straw for the Head of the Nation’s Civil Aviation Authority On January 4, Greece’s air traffic control system hit a snag so embarrassing that even the leader of its aviation authority couldn’t bear to return, stepping down from the governor position and leaving the deputy governor to deal with the mess. The eight-hour radio communications blackout halted flights into, out of, and over much of Greece, affecting dozens of inbound flights at once.
